SIMSBURY, Conn. (WFSB) - A phone scam is targeting people around Connecticut.
Scammers are claiming to be police officers and demanding personal information and money.
Police urged folks to hang up immediately if they receive this call.
These “spoofing scams” have already been reported in Simsbury and East Haven.
Scammers disguise their identity and change the number appearing on a Caller ID to make it look like the call came from police.
This tactic is meant to earn the victim’s trust.
In one case, police said a scammer claimed to be an East Haven officer trying to get someone’s banking information.
Another resident reported the same thing, saying the scammer pretended to be the police chief.
These scammers have been telling victims there are outstanding arrest warrants or ongoing
