As Brockville’s supportive cabins gear up for their first full winter in operation, there are a few spots open to welcome new residents into the program.
The cabin program began operation in February of this year , and has been a popular initiative that has brought stability for people experiencing homelessness in the area.
Right now, there are 13 empty slots available out of the 25 total cabins, although the program was running at a 98 per cent occupancy rate before this period of time.
According to the John Howard Society of Kingston and District, which runs the daily operations of the cabins, the reason behind having over half of the cabins empty is because most of the residents have now moved into the new supportive housing facility on the same site .
