The city’s switch to residential grade-oriented infill (R-CG) as the default residential zoning district last year has had a “negligible effect” on Calgary’s water, roads and park infrastructure, according to a new city report.

The report to city council’s infrastructure and planning committee meeting Wednesday was in response to a motion the previous council approved on May 14, 2024, after they voted to adopt R-CG citywide — a decision commonly referred to as “blanket rezoning.”

R-CG allows for the development of up to four ground-level housing units on a single parcel previously zoned for single-family detached homes.
