Outside the city’s AISH office in northeast Calgary, a number of Calgarians gathered on a frigid Wednesday, dressed in their warmest clothing and holding posters and red flags.
For many of them, making it out the door on a warm day is already challenging, navigating a range of physical and mental disabilities.
To be at the rally, protesting the province’s announced changes to its disability benefits program, on a cold, snowy and slippery day — “it is that much harder for people with disabilities to make it out the door,” said Eva Foessel, whose sister and sister-in-law live with severe physical and mental disabilities, respectively.
