Actors PLAYground offering adaptation of holiday classic

Actors PLAYground is taking a stab at “The Nutcracker” for the holidays, but don’t expect a ballet.

Instead, the Surprise community theater group at 11340 W. Bell Road, Suite 105, will be performing June Walker Rogers’ 50-minute one-act play, which details the legend of the Nutcracker.

The play starts at a gala Christmas Eve party, where Clara’s godfather gives her a Nutcracker in the form of a wooden soldier.

Clara suddenly finds the Nutcracker brought to life while she was too excited to sleep.

The Nutcracker tells her he is a prince under the wicked enchantment of the Mouse King. Clara joins him in a series of adventures in strange lands as he seeks to regain his throne.

When she wakes, she finds the Nutcracker gone and wond
