SARASOTA, Fla. ( WWSB ) -Sarasota County stormwater staff, working with the West Coast Inland Navigation District, have launched a multi-phase dredging project on Phillippi Creek aimed at improving stormwater drainage and reducing the risk of flooding.
The dredging work stretches from the mouth of Phillippi Creek through to South Beneva Road and is expected to benefit more than 46,000 homes, properties, and businesses along the creek. Phillippi Creek is a tidal waterway within the Sarasota Bay watershed and carries stormwater to Roberts Bay, making effective drainage essential for the surrounding communities.

The total cost of the project is about 15,000,000. All funds have been approved and allocated by the county.
