KUNA, Idaho — The family of a man beaten to death in an Idaho prison filed a federal lawsuit this week against the Idaho Department of Correction and several prison officials.

Milo Warnock, 45, was a nonviolent prisoner with bipolar disorder. He was serving a "short term" for a federal charge of driving under the influence, according to court documents. Warnock was held in a high security close custody cell with James Johnson , who the complaint alleges had a history of violent behavior.

Johnson killed Warnock on Dec. 10, 2023. He was sentenced to life in prison in April 2025 for Warnock's death, and will be eligible for parole after 35 years.
