CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KFVS) - Missouri taxes are due at the end of the year. But mail delays are causing concern for taxpayers who sent payments weeks ago without confirmation whether or not they have been processed.

Multiple community members have reported sending their property tax payments by mail, but the payments have not yet been posted to their accounts.

Cape Girardeau County Collector Barbara Gholson said mail delivery has been problematic, but offered a solution for taxpayers who prefer to mail their payments.

“By statute, anything that is postmarked before December 31st is paid on time. So even if we get it on January 5th and it’s dated December, it’ll be on time,” Gholson said. “What I would recommend is: go into the post office, have them hand-stamp it.”
