HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A 60-year-old man is indicted for the alleged assault of a Honolulu police officer on Thanksgiving morning.
Tommy J. Chiles is accused of biting an officer in Waikiki on Nov. 27.
Just 10 days earlier, he was released on his own recognizance in a felony drug case.
During that prior case, the deputy prosecutor objected to Chiles’ request for release.
When the release was granted, the deputy requested a geographical restriction from Waikiki, which was denied.
“Geographical restrictions are tools that law enforcement uses to protect a community,” said prosecuting attorney Steve Alm. “They apply to all crimes and can be helpful when dealing with individuals who are persistent law violators.”
