WELLESLEY, Mass. —
In a Zoom interview from rural Honduras, 19-year-old Any Lucia Lopez Belloca says she planned to surprise her parents in Texas by flying home for Thanksgiving break.
Lopez-Belloca, a Babson College freshman, was stopped at Logan Airport on Nov. 20 and quickly detained by ICE agents.
She was informed for the first time that she had a removal order from immigration authorities, according to her lawyer, Todd Pomerleau.
She was then deported to her native Honduras, where she is living with her grandparents that she hasn't seen in 12 years and barely knows.
“My dream was for me to be in college, fulfill, like not only mine but like also like family dream,” Lopez-Belloca said.
ICE says she was in the U.S. illegally and ordered to leave in 2015.
