NAGS HEAD, N.C. — Construction at Jennette’s Pier in Nags Head is set to get under way this month, allowing the projects to be completed in time for another busy summer season next year.
The facility is part of the North Carolina Aquariums Division and a member of the North Carolina Department of Natural and Cultural Resources.
Beginning Dec. 8, the outright end of the pier, past the widening flare, will be closed to visitors. A construction crew will replace the small roof-top observation platform on the research station with a much larger one, according to Pier Director Mike Remige.
“It will allow the Coastal Studies Institute (CSI) to install more and larger observation equipment,” he said. Jennette’s is partnered with the nearby CSI and East Carolina University in ocean energy resea
