WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) — Nearly six months after Wichita implemented paid parking in the downtown core, businesses say the change has had mixed effects on customers and workers.
The city began enforcing paid parking on July 1 in the area bordered by the Arkansas River and Washington Avenue, and from 2nd Street to Kellogg. It costs $1 an hour, with enforcement from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday and until 9 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. Drivers can pay at meters, kiosks or through parking apps.
At Prost, owner Austin English said he was initially skeptical but came to understand the city’s reasoning.
“I wasn’t really for it initially until I learned a little bit more… now I understand why we’re doing it,” he said.
