INDIANAPOLIS — Police say one person is dead after an early morning shooting on the south side of Indianapolis Thursday.

It happened just before 1 a.m. in the 4200 block of Burkhart Drive, which is near the intersection of South Meridian Street and East Banta Avenue.

We're working to confirm details surrounding the incident, but an IMPD spokesperson said officers investigating a report of a shooting discovered a person with an apparent gunshot wound.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
