The one group you never want to say “cheese” is now posting cautionary notices about it.

The Food and Drug Administration reported a voluntary recall was issued on more than 250,000 cases of shredded cheese sold throughout the U.S., including major South Carolina retailers, for “potential metal fragments from supplier raw material."

Affected cheeses, produced by the Great Lakes Cheese Co., were sold in Target , Walmart and Aldi under the retailers’ brand names of Good & Gather, Great Value and Happy Farms, respectively.

The initial voluntary recall in 31 states and Puerto Rico began Oct. 3 for containing metal fragments, which pose a risk of internal injury if consumed.
