Russian President Vladimir Putin is set to arrive in Delhi on Thursday evening for a two-day state visit to India, during which several agreements are expected to be signed between the two countries. The visit, extended at the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is Putin’s first trip to India since the launch of Russia’s war in Ukraine.

This marks Putin’s first visit to India since 2021 and is being seen as historic, coinciding with the 25th anniversary of the India-Russia strategic partnership and the 23rd bilateral summit between the two countries. The leaders last met on September 1 in Tianjin during the SCO Summit and have held five phone conversations this year.
