NEWARK — Mental health struggles – coupled with inadequate support services – and building infrastructure in disrepair are negatively affecting student well-being and learning, according to Newark high school pupils.
According to Newark youth, solutions to these district issues are often decided without insight or guidance from the students who are navigating these challenges every day.
Newark students from The Gem Project and Youth Power Action Coalition are determined to change that.
Over 20 students showed up in the rain on Tuesday night, Nov. 25, to attend the Newark Board of Education meeting and provide their own research and solutions to district issues, again urging the board to sit down and collaborate with them.
