Adrian Chiles has revealed he has been diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma after he received the results of a biopsy. He will need to undergo an operation on his shoulder to tackle the skin cancer, and assured fans it "won't spread".

“So not nothing, but not serious. Needs keeping an eye on,” he wrote in his Guardian column. Squamous cell carcinoma is a type of skin cancer caused by an overproduction of squamous cells in your epidermis, the top layer of your skin.

Exposing your skin to the sun's UV rays puts you at a high risk of getting skin cancer. Following his surgery, Adrian waited 23 days after having the patch of skin removed. Adrian got two notifications from the NHS but neither mentioned results.
