OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - Officials with the Metropolitan Utilities District say the budget for next year has been approved.

A release sent Wednesday revealed that Omaha customers can expect rate increases for natural gas and water as part of the budget.

MUD says the average residential customer will see an estimated 2.9 percent increase. Included is a 1.8 percent increase for gas and a 4.5 percent increase for water. This would add up to about $33 a year on the combined natural gas and water bill.

“Individual bills will vary depending on weather, consumption and the pass-through cost of natural gas,” the release reads.

The new rates are scheduled to take effect on Jan. 2, the release states.
