Residents from Erskine Veterans Charity were treated to a heart-warming festive lunch at a Glasgow rehoming centre this week. The Scottish SPCA opened its doors for the veterans as a thank you to the charity, who have been visiting and volunteering every week since July.

The partnership not only benefits the animals at the centre, by offering companionship, social time with new people and a sense of calm, but also benefits the veterans as well by providing routine.

According to the animal welfare charity, research has shown that time with animals can reduce feelings of loneliness, anxiety and depression by providing a sense of purpose. Simply petting a cat or dog can help to alleviate stress and promote relaxation.
