MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — The Morgantown Police Department is warning the public about an email phishing scam.
Authorities said the emails use false justifications with the city logo to request funds. In some cases, the emails reference pending meetings or transactions, and have even attempted to impersonate the city Planning Commission.
The emails have reportedly targeted businesses and government agencies.
When a suspected fishing email is receive do not click on any links, or provide any personal or financial information.
All payment requests should be confirmed with with an official with the City of Morgantown and any suspicious emails should be reported.
