Recent research reveals many Brits struggle to identify constellations, planets and celestial events
Brits appear to be in the dark when it comes to our solar system, with four out of 10 unable to name the largest planet , according to a recent poll. The survey of 2,000 adults revealed that a third (32%) confessed their knowledge of astronomy is somewhat lacking. A staggering 38% don't what a supernova is, and one in 100 believe Earth is encircled by rings, just like Saturn and Uranus.
Other familiar celestial patterns that baffle Brits include the Summer Triangle (94%), Little Bear (90%), and The Dragon (95%). Despite this confusion, 73% expressed interest in learning more about the night sky, with 58% taking the time out to gaze at it.
