Syracuse, N.Y. — Schools try every year to acquire the best high school football talent in the country. They succeed with some and fail with others.

Syracuse football is no different.

The Orange had 24 high schoolers and one junior-college transfer sign with the school on Wednesday, the first of three-day early signing period.

While five-star wide receiver Calvin Russell III is postponing his signing until Friday , there are other 2026 recruits who had once intended to sign with Syracuse headed elsewhere.

Gates, a cornerback from Damien (California), had a whirlwind recruiting cycle.
