BOWLING GREEN, Ohio — Outdoor warning siren tests scheduled for this week in Wood, Lucas and Ottawa counties have been canceled due to forecasted cold temperatures.

Officials from all three counties say activating the sirens in freezing weather could damage internal components, potentially leading to costly repairs and extended downtime as severe weather season approaches.

“Most manufacturers don’t recommend testing below 20 degrees,” said a joint statement from Lucas and Ottawa County Emergency Management Agencies. “Moisture inside the sirens can freeze, and if activated, could damage the mechanism.”

The tests were originally scheduled for Friday, Dec. 5 in Lucas and Ottawa counties and Saturday, Dec. 6 in Wood County. None of the tests will be rescheduled, but all three counties plan
