MANHATTAN — A Kansas State football assistant coach posted on social media that he's been let go by the school, a day after Chris Klieman announced his retirement after seven seasons .

Van Malone, the school's assistant head coach, defensive passing game coordinator and cornerbacks coach, posted on X that he's looking for a new job.

"7 great years at Kansas State, 7 years of All Conference players, Big XII Championship, Numerous 8-Win seasons. Phenomenal impact… coaches, players, staff, and in the community!" Malone posted. " I’ve learned to count my blessings even in uncertain times … I’m fired though, holler if you hear of something that fits."

Malone was signed through the 2026 season and made $435,000 annually.
