GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — A new ordinance being considered by the City of Grand Rapids could limit how people are able to demonstrate in front of healthcare facilities.
A citizen-led initiative that would prohibit amplified sound outside of healthcare facilities was presented in front of city commissioners and Grand Rapids Mayor David LaGrand.
Grand Rapids interim city attorney Phil Strom presented the initiative, and specifically named Planned Parenthood as a source of concern about some residents in the Cherry Neighborhood.
Discussion about changes to the current ordinance on noise in the city took place at a Grand Rapids Committee of the Whole meeting on Tuesday.
Strom shared some concerns about limiting free speech and increasing public interactions with local law enforcement.
