The “shocking” death of a young boy last year has sparked a school bus-safety campaign aimed at drivers.
In the wake of the death of seven-year-old Dante Caranci , parents at Our Lady of Lourdes elementary school are launching a new initiative called No Excuses, designed to raise awareness that vehicles in both directions must stop when school bus red lights are flashing.
“The parents of Our Lady of Lourdes felt we needed to do something about the lack of accountability and lack of respect for our children getting on and off school buses,” said Lauren Preston, a member of the school’s parent council. “Our goal is to create awareness around school buses when they stop, and what those rules are.”
