More than 1 million bags of Great Lakes Cheese Co. shredded cheese have been recalled due to possible contamination of metal fragments, according to a U.S. Food and Drug Administration report.

The Ohio-based cheese company sells its cheeses at stores in Oregon, like Walmart and Target. The recall was first reported on Oct. 3, with the company announcing that the affected cheese may be contaminated with pieces of metal, and that consumption could cause injury.

The FDA reclassified the recall to a "Class II" on Dec. 1, according to an enforcement report, meaning the food "may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences.”
