Less than 24 hours after the status of Brantford Bulldogs forward Sam McCue was a major topic on social media, the picture has been cleared.
On Wednesday, Bulldogs general manager Spencer Hyman made it clear that McCue had not been released and on Thursday, that was validated as Brantford traded the power forward to the Ottawa 67’s for second (2029, Ottawa) and third-round (2029, Ottawa) draft choices.
The 67’s also got a fifth-round pick (2029, Brantford).
McCue, a 20-year-old in his final OHL season, was acquired by the Bulldogs from the Flint Firebirds in the off-season for a boatload of draft picks – a 2026 second round (Brampton), 2026 third (Sudbury), 2027 third (Flint), 2027 fourth (Saginaw), 2026 fifth (Brantford), 2028 sixth (Brantford) and 2029 12th (Brantford).
