A former Boston Police Department detective has been indicted after authorities say he crashed a city-owned vehicle while intoxicated.

Greg Walsh, 51, of South Boston, was charged with OUI liquor, leaving the scene of property damage, negligent operation of a motor vehicle and intoxicated licensee carrying a firearm, the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office said Thursday.

According to charging documents, early in the morning on Oct. 22, 2024, Walsh was driving a city-owned pickup truck that was outfitted to look like a utility vehicle for undercover work.

At about 2:30 a.m., several hours after the end of Walsh’s shift, he backed the truck into an occupied Tesla car on Sumner Street in East Boston, damaging the car’s hood, before driving around the block to Marginal Street.
