RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) -- January 2026 will mark three years since Darryl Williams died in Raleigh Police custody. Now, the City of Raleigh has reached an agreement to settle a federal lawsuit with Williams' estate.

The City will pay nearly a million dollars following the incident that played out on body cam video .

In 2023, officers approached Williams in a parked vehicle outside a business on Rock Quarry Road, and police say they suspected Williams was in possession of illegal drugs.

Police say officers found a folded-up dollar bill with white substance and when officers tried to take him into custody, police say Williams took off running.

Officers deployed their stun guns and restrained Williams, as he explained he had a health condition.
