OHIO, USA — Ohio Governor Mike DeWine vetoed on Wednesday a bill that would have allowed teenagers under 16 years of age to work later hours on school nights, after the bill passed both the state House and Senate this year .

In a strongly-worded press release and veto message , DeWine acknowledged that "learning to work is an essential part of growing up," but decried the stipulations of the Senate Bill 50: that it would permit 14 and 15-year-olds to work up to 9 p.m. at any time of year, including school nights. However, these teens would need approval from a parent or legal guardian to do so, according to a legislative bill analysis.
