CASA GRANDE, AZ (AZFamily) — Residents are searching for the person who shot a family of Harris’s hawks in a Casa Grande neighborhood, leaving one bird dead and another permanently injured.
The attacks occurred about a week ago when a neighbor found one of the hawks struggling in his front yard. The bird had suffered three severe gunshot wounds from a pellet gun.
A day later, residents discovered another hawk with severe injuries, including an amputated talon from pellet gun wounds.
Both birds were taken to a raptor rescue facility, but one had to be euthanized due to its injuries. The surviving hawk will never be able to fly again, and rescue workers are searching for a permanent home for the bird. If no placement is found, it may also face euthanasia.
