AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - Potter County is in the process of expanding the reach of its license plate readers (LPRs).
The county is nearing a resolution with TxDOT to begin installing LPR’s on state-maintained highways.
There are currently 127 LPR’s in the Texas Panhandle, including 10 in Potter County.
The Panhandle Auto Burglary and Theft Unit says this potential agreement reflects the increased use of these devices in assisting law enforcement.
“Just this week alone I’ve gotten calls from two different agencies that want to expand the amount of cameras they have. So, this is growing tremendously. The more cameras we have out, the better intel we get on the law enforcement side and the better solvability of crimes we’ll be able to do just with those cameras out,” said Patrick McBroom,
