KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - The Knox County Board of Education voted to approve a legislative priority that pushes back against immigration tracking in schools.
This comes as Tennessee lawmakers are considering legislation — HB0793/SB0836 — that would give school boards the power to deny enrollment to undocumented students unless they pay tuition for public school.
The priority focuses on opposing immigration status mandates and guaranteeing education for children.

During their regular Thursday meeting, the school board approved the legislative priority by a 6-3 vote.
