BUFFALO, N.Y. — Gov. Kathy Hochul signed new legislation that she said "could be a matter of life and death."
The bill she signed is aimed at making life-saving medical care more affordable and accessible for New Yorkers, specifically those at risk for lung cancer.
The new legislation requires health insurance policies to cover follow-up screenings and diagnostic services for lung cancer at no cost to patients, eliminating co-pays, deductibles, or other out-of-pocket expenses.
"Lung cancer is one of the deadliest cancers in the nation," Governor Hochul said. "A cancer screening is what gives you a new lease on life."
Lung cancer remains the leading cause of cancer deaths statewide. Each year, approximately 13,900 New Yorkers are diagnosed, and about 7,400 die from the disease. Health l
