Plans to build a Costco at the old Seminole Towne Center Mall in Sanford are moving forward, with the city hosting a public hearing to discuss the proposal and gather community feedback.
The mall, which is mostly closed and considered a "sad piece of real estate" off I-4, is set to be revitalized with a new Costco that will span over 156,000 square feet and include gas pumps and a liquor store.
The team behind the project is requesting code exceptions from Sanford, including a 75% increase in parking spaces, which surprised some due to the mall's existing parking capacity.
Despite this, there is overall excitement about the prospect of having a Costco in the neighborhood, as there isn't one nearby.
