TORONTO — Lakers coach JJ Redick made it clear that the onus wasn’t on Austin Reaves to score 50 points on Thursday night in light of Luka Doncic being away from the team because of personal reasons.

But even if it might not be his singular responsibility to make up for Doncic’s absence, Reaves has shown throughout the season that he’ll raise his level of play to even higher levels when Doncic isn’t available.

Thursday night against the Toronto Raptors was no different, with Reaves once again stepping up, recording 44 points, 11 assists and five rebounds.

But it was Rui Hachimura’s game-winning shot – and LeBron James voluntarily passing up on a late opportunity to continue a legendary streak – that gave the Lakers a 123-120 victory over the Raptors at Scotiabank Arena.
