LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - As snow falls and temperatures drop in mid-Michigan, household water pipes become more susceptible to freezing and potentially bursting.

Each year, more than 250,000 American homes suffer water damage from burst pipes, which can cause thousands of dollars in damage.

Roger Jarvis, owner of Roger the Plumber LLC, said homeowners should watch for warning signs.

“Well, if you get up on a really cold morning and you go to turn on a faucet and all of a sudden you’re not getting any water, there’s a good chance you have a frozen pipe,” Jarvis said.

Jarvis said the cost to replace pipes is generally between $200 and $500, but damage to the house is the biggest cause for concern.

He has seen burst pipes cause major damage.
