COLCHESTER, Conn. (WFSB) - Crews responded late Thursday night to a structure fire, where flames were reported coming through the roof.
According to Colchester Fire Department, units were called to the 100 block of North Pond Way at 11:45 p.m.
The bitter cold created challenges for firefighters, particularly icy roads leading into the new neighborhood, which slowed access to the home.
Crews also faced difficulty extinguishing the flames because there were no fire hydrants in the neighborhood.
The closest water supply was roughly a mile away, requiring tankers to shuttle water back and forth to the scene.
Firefighters were able to bring the fire under control shortly before 1 a.m.
