It’s finally December, so I feel a bit less weird about promoting big Christmas events now that Thanksgiving is over.

At my house, we seem to be a bit late to the party in getting decorations up. If we’re not fast we’re going to be the only folks on the block without lights.

This Friday night, Chico is hosting its yearly Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony in City Plaza, complete with music, Santa and a nice sense of local camaraderie.

The ceremony will go from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in downtown, and the ice rink will likely be open as well for skaters. There’s some history here as well. Apparently, the lighting ceremony has been a yearly event since 1978.
