TOLEDO, Ohio — A west Toledo man was arrested on Thursday after he allegedly assaulted his fiancé and six-month-old baby, and attempted to assault Toledo police officers while handcuffed to a hospital bed.

In multiple Toledo Municipal Court affidavits, Toledo police officers alleged Avery Mapes, 23, struck his live-in fiancé, leaving behind multiple bruises and marks on her face and arm. Officers said the victim's arm appeared as if it had been squeezed, and that she had two "bloody handprints" on the back of her hoodie.

Mapes, who was allegedly intoxicated at the time, also struck his six-month-old baby in the head. Police said the baby was struck at least once while Mapes was trying to assault his fiancé, who was holding the baby at the time. The attack left the baby with multiple red
