A bulldozer was driven into the New Inn pub in Hirwaun, Rhondda Cynon Taf, in a suspected targeted attack on Thursday evening, December 4. Emergency services responded swiftly to the incident, which occurred shortly after 9pm on Rhigos Road. A 35-year-old man from Rhigos has been arrested on suspicion of attempted grievous bodily harm (GBH) and various motoring offences, including driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Local residents were advised to avoid the area as emergency services worked at the scene. Fortunately, no injuries to other individuals were reported. The arrested man is currently receiving treatment in hospital. A police spokesperson stated, "We have reason to believe that this incident may have been targeted rather than random, and we are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding it." The New Inn announced on its Facebook page that it would be "closed until further notice" due to "unforeseen circumstances". A cordon remained in place at the scene on Friday morning, with police continuing their investigations. The Welsh Ambulance Service confirmed they were called to the incident at approximately 9.08pm, dispatching an operations manager and an emergency ambulance, along with pre-hospital immediate care specialists from MEDSERVE Wales. One patient was taken to hospital for further treatment. South Wales Police reassured the public that they are not seeking anyone else in connection with the incident and that there is no ongoing risk to the community.
