A convicted terrorist who came to the UK illegally in a small boat has been jailed for more than two years, the Crown Prosecution Service said.
Rebwar Hamad, 48, from Iraq, arrived with other migrants on September 19 and later pleaded guilty to entering the country without valid entry clearance, prosecutors say.
Hamad first came to the UK in 2001 and was granted indefinite leave to remain, it was said.
In 2019, he was convicted in his absence in Italy of terrorism offences and extradited the following year to serve his sentence, the CPS added.
After his release, he was ordered to leave Italy within a week, but when a UK visa application was refused, he paid 1,200 euro (around £1,050) for a place on a small boat that was later intercepted off Dover, it was said.
