Police have enacted a dispersal order in Oldham following significant disorder involving over 100 youths. The chaos erupted on Thursday at around 5pm when a group of men gathered, leading to a large brawl that escalated quickly. Authorities are currently investigating the incident to identify those involved. In response to the violence, police have implemented a patrol plan for the next three days to prevent any further disturbances. Inspector Kat Murray from the Oldham Central Neighbourhood Policing Team confirmed the measures taken after the alarming events. A dispersal order allows police to instruct individuals to leave a designated area and prohibits them from returning for a specified period, usually up to 48 hours. This tool is designed to combat anti-social behaviour, crime, harassment, or intimidation, aiming to restore peace in the community by dispersing groups and preventing escalation. “The disorder last night was alarming for our residents in Oldham, and we know how much anti-social behaviour can disrupt people’s lives,” Inspector Murray stated. She emphasised that the patrol plan is a proactive approach to deter further anti-social behaviour incidents and to reassure the community. “Officers will be patrolling the area to enforce the order and engage with the general public.
