Russian President Vladimir Putin, who came to India on a two-day state visit, visited Rajghat on Friday and paid homage to Mahatma Gandhi.

The Russian leader, accompanied by MOS External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh, paid floral tributes, laid a wreath and observed silence at the memorial, honouring Gandhi’s legacy of peace and non-violence.

After the tribute, Putin wrote a heartfelt message in the visitors’ book, acknowledging Gandhi’s lasting influence on global leadership and moral philosophy.

In his note, Putin called Mahatma Gandhi the founder of modern independent India, a humanist, and a great freedom fighter.
