Some advice Brad Snobelen received early in his farming career was farms are built with small moves, so don’t be too aggressive.
The McKay’s Corners area farmer and his wife Jess have followed that advice in supplying a niche market with popcorn.
“We were just interested in trying something different and trying to expand and see what else was out there,” Snobelen said.
Snobelen, who recently was named agriculturist of the year by Chatham-Kent Chamber of Commerce, said about five years ago, they planted a single, 45-metre (150 feet) row of Red Ruby popcorn.
That fall, they were selling pumpkins in front of their farm, and he would give customers an ear of the popcorn.
