The race among Democrats for California’s newly redrawn 4th Congressional District has taken a bizarre turn.

A teenager linked to the campaign of challenger Eric Jones was investigated by the U.S. Capitol Police for surveilling the St. Helena home of longtime incumbent Rep. Mike Thompson in October, according to a Nov. 12 summary provided by the federal law enforcement agency at Thompson’s request, and obtained Wednesday by The Press Democrat.

“This is disturbing,” Thompson said in a written statement. “It scared my wife, my granddaughter who lives with us, and my neighbor who is a single woman living alone. Given the terrible attack on Paul Pelosi and the increase in political violence against public officials recently, it’s hard to believe that anyone would think this was okay.
