ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. ( WWSB ) — An eight-hour mediation hearing between the Kowalski family and their former attorneys ended Tuesday without a settlement, nearly two years after a $211 million judgment against Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital was overturned.

Jack Kowalski, Maya Kowalski, and Kyle Kowalski all appeared in person for the mediation, according to a report filed in the 12th Judicial Circuit Court.

The family is asking an appellate court to rehear their case after a three-judge panel reversed the entire verdict against Johns Hopkins in late October.

In what became known as the Take Care of Maya case, a jury in 2023 found that the hospital was negligent when it reported the mother of then 10-year-old Maya Kowalski to a child abuse hotline.
