A 37-year-old St. Johns County man is facing two counts of attempted murder after investigators say he shot his girlfriend and her roommate “apparently unprovoked” in the women’s St. Augustine home.

Michael Hankerson was arrested Thursday night, eight blocks away from the home where deputies say he fired a gun at his girlfriend and her friend while the three of them were watching a movie in the living room.

The two women and another man in the home at the time all called 911 to report the shooting just before 7 p.m. Thursday. Deputies said both women were airlifted to the hospital, where they survived their injuries.

Hankerson’s girlfriend was shot multiple times in her legs, and her roommate was wounded in her shoulder, according to his arrest report.
