A student is being blamed for a bullet that was found at a high school in Litchfield on Friday, school officials said.

The 9 mm bullet was found on the floor in a classroom at Lakeview High School, according to Jeffrey A. Villar, superintendent of the Region School District 20 .

Villar said Connecticut State Police were contacted and the facility was put into a shelter-in-place mode.

Using a K-9 unit, state police did a full sweep of the school to ensure no firearms were in the building, Villar said.

“The source of the bullet was ultimately determined to be a student,” Villar said in an email correspondence.

Villar was notified of the incident by the school principal. It was not immediately clear if the student faces charges.
